June Meeting Reminder

The June Meeting will be held on June 4 from 10-12 pm at the Newburyport Library, and we will focus on show and tell (remember to bring projects from April if you have them!), seeing Riley Blake Challenge projects, discussing charity projects for the year, and have a Q&A about QuiltCon.

Riley Blake Challenge: Photos of your finished quilted project need to be uploaded to the MQG website by May 31 (This is tomorrow!). When submitting you can use the link https://mqg.submittable.com/submit or sign into the MQG site, go to the "Home" tab at the top, and then click to submit your project to the challenge.
Please bring your projects to the meeting and we will have a vote for the best project with a prize for the winner!

Our QuiltCon Charity Quilt Design Committee met this month and has a few designs ready for us to vote on to make for QuiltCon East in February.
We are also going to be hearing from some members who have attended QuiltCon in the past as the signups for courses will be happening at the end of June for MQG members. If you have any questions please bring them to the meeting!

Registration is now open for the October Retreat day with the Cambridge Modern Quilt Guild. Find the link to sign up and more info here!

May Meeting Recap - Spring Speaker Amy Friend

We met on Saturday in the West Newbury Old Town Hall to see Amy Friend's presentation featuring the quilts and projects from her book, Intentional Piecing. Amy told us about how she started blogging at During Quiet Time and we got to hear about the book writing process and how wonderful it was to collaborate with Lucky Spool on the book. Amy flexed her skills and did the photography for the book, guaranteeing that it would look like a quilt book from New England.

Amy showed us quilt after quilt that displayed her thoughtful approach to fabric placement in quilt piecing, from special impactful fussy cuts to blenders and backgrounds. Amy's theory is that if you are going to spend time and money on fabric for making quilts you should also give consideration on how the fabric will be used within the quilt.

Amy showed off her Tell Me a Story quilt - while there is currently a contest on Amy's blog where you make and post Tell Me A Story quilt blocks to Instagram with the appropriate hashtags, the SMQG has been offered a special opportunity to win a roll of fussy cut prints to add to your own stash! Every Tell Me A Story quilt block that you bring to the August meeting will count as an entry into a drawing for the roll of fabric that Amy is holding below.

The June Meeting will be held on June 4 from 10-12 pm at the Newburyport Library, and we will focus on show and tell, sharing Riley Blake Challenge projects, discussing charity projects for the year, and have a Q&A about QuiltCon!

May Meeting Reminder

Is it just me or did April disappear this year?!

Our May meeting is just around the corner and will take place on Saturday May 7 from 10am-12pm at the Old Town Hall in West Newbury. There will be a book collection in the front foyer, so please enter through the side entrance.

Please remember to bring the lanyard you have made for your partner if you are participating in our lanyard swap. We will be doing a quick swap of these before the meeting starts. As a reminder, we will not be doing show and tell at the meeting, please bring any show and tell items to our June meeting.

There will be an informal meeting at 9:15 about the retreat, and anyone who would like to be a part of the Retreat Committee for next year is welcome to join us. We will be covering the results from the survey that was given out post retreat.

 Intentional Piecing

At 9:45 we will start setting up chairs for Amy's talk on her book, Intentional Piecing. Amy Friend is one of our SMQG founding members and blogs at During Quiet Time. I can't wait to see all of the quilts from her book in person!

This will be a free event for members, but guests will be charged a $10 entrance fee.

Hope to see you all there!
