Crayon Box Challenge - Due October 2017

For the next few months we will be working on a Crayon Box Challenge, presented by Judy!

1. Participants blindly draw 2 crayons and are challenged to make a mini quilt between 18" square and 22" square using only those 2 colors and one neutral (defined as white, off-white, any shade of gray, or black.)

  • The mini quilt must have a top, batting, backing, and must be bound.
  • The mini may be square or rectangular, as long as no side is shorter than 18" or longer than 22".
  • Fabrics can be solids or prints that "read as" solids as long as no other colors are introduced.
2. The quilt design should be modern.
3. The minis will be displayed and voted on at the October meeting. You will have all summer to find just the right fabrics and create!
4. Voting will be by ballot and based upon how well the guidelines were followed, the most effective use of the 2 colors, the design, the technique, and overall appeal of the quilt.
5. Prizes will be awarded for first, second, and third place.

Prizes were picked up by Amy at Sample Spree at Quilt Market! The first place prize is a fat quarter bundle of Metallic Essex Linen. Second place prize is a fat quarter stack from the Cotton & Steel line Kicks. Third place prize is a charm pack of Elizabeth Hartman's Reef line, in a Cotton & Steel tote bag.
Those of us at the June meeting who wished to participate picked two crayons from a brown paper bag. If you were not at the June meeting and would like to participate in the challenge, please email Judy to receive two crayon colors to use. She will draw two crayons from the bag for you and will let you know the Crayola crayon color name.
