Committee Reports:

Treasurer's report was given.

We kicked off the meeting with a Trunk Show of very creative quilts by Robin Lent.  Robin is the epitome of a modern quilter - she rarely uses a pattern, doesn’t follow the rules, uses negative space and improvises. If she doesn’t like what she has created she will deconstruct/cut up and use in a new quilt!  Her creations can be found on her Instagram account - robbyquilt

Robin finds inspiration from design magazines such as Architectural Digest, looking at rugs and wallpaper for inspiration.

Her work includes quilts based on patterns by:

Anne Lamott – Bird by Bird

Amy Friend – Kite Tails (in black & white)

Riley Blake challenge “Disintegration” in white, pink, blue, green & yellow

Robin also showed her unique designs:

“Men’s Shirts Redux” that she deconstructed and redid in Red, White & Blue

“Covid Scribbles” in black and white with a pop of blue.  Speaks for itself!

“New Hampshire Coffee – this quilt was made with coffee burlap bags and canvas from her daughter and son-in-law’s coffee company.  Very cool!

“Allsorts” with some great wonky squares in brown, yellow and blue

A friend gifted her some antique squares which she used to create blocks

Tip: to prevent red and orange from running add salt in the detergent to neutralize it.

Programs:

Ideas for this year’s Programs include:

~Block of the Month – JoAnne has met with Maggie at Pintuck & Purl to pull this together.  Maggie has agreed to give the Guild a discount on the fabric for the blocks.

~National Speakers such as Eileen Roderick and Amy Friend

~Local speakers

~Virtual sew-ins

Please support local businesses whenever you can!

Barb B, working with Diane will send out a survey to get member’s ideas for different activities (i.e. skill building for BoM, Paper Piecing, Y Seams, Curves)

Charity:

The Birch Tree quilt, which Sasha has needs to be donated.  She will do a count of the quilts she has and let JoAnne know.

Show and Tell:

JoAnne showed her Gravity BoM by Jay Bird quilts she is working on.  This pattern requires using 2 special rulers.

Colleen is working on a beautiful Bear Paw quilt in Amish colors.  Her mother’s friend started it but never finished.  Her son asked Colleen if she would finish it.  With some hand and machine quilting Colleen will be able to return it to him so he can enjoy it.

Diane created a beautiful mask scarf in blues.

Kate finished a beautiful quilt for her mother in law using granny squares.  The border is all about birds which her mother in law loves.

Paula made an adorable Hedgehog pillow for her daughter’s boyfriend using an Elizabeth Hartman pattern. She is also working on getting her 2020 Kinship 100 block finished.

Gayle showed us her Dancing with the Wall (Eileen Roderick).  She starts in the middle of a quilt and has no idea what she’s going to do until she gets going!

Lou made the sweetest bunny quilts for her great-great granddaughter!

Marylee was inspired by a card she received and made a beautiful cardinal wall hanging.

Mary showed the pillow she made during Karen Lewis’ The Thread House retreat (thethreadhouse.co.uk)

Bethany made pillowcases made using fun fabric from Hawaii and, a Marden’s find

Theresa had made a quilt for her kids which they “snuggled to death” so she decided a remake was needed!

Other business:

Quilt Con 2022 will be held in Phoenix, AZ

Tutorials on IG & Zoom – not all members are familiar with these platforms so we’d like to have people who are frequent users provide some training

Formation of a “Sunshine” committee which would be responsible for delivering cards for member birthdays, illness, death in family and other words of encouragement
