Committee Reports:

Treasurer’s report was given.

Secretary’s report – nothing to add from the published March minutes

Hospitality: Haley is spending time with her family.  Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers.

Retreat: Kate reported that the Vermont Quilt Festival will hold classes virtually.  This is an opportunity to attend workshops rather than a retreat.   Slow Stitching in Maine offers a retreat (as of May 8 it is sold out) and Road to CA (Road to Home) offers virtual workshops and lectures.

JoAnne and Kate will look into future (virtual) retreats hosted by Thread House UK.  The new format accommodates quilters across the globe and various time zones.  There are several instructors and 3-4 videos are produced each day of the retreat showing various techniques.  Participants have access to the videos and can view at their leisure. The videos remain available for 6 months to members.  Door prizes are given to members, live!  The next retreat is June 5-6.

Programs:

UFO Challenge:

The completion due date for our UFO’s has been moved to October’s meeting.

Member presentations:

Mary O will demonstrate Lucy Boston English Paper Piecing  in June’s meeting.

Festival of Trees:

Paula is in touch with them on whether they’ll have the festival this year.  If they are it will take place in mid-November.

Strawberry Banke:

They will be opening this summer.  The festival we show our quilts at is held Columbus Day weekend.  More information to come on whether it will be held and, our participation.

Speakers/Workshops:

Since our May 1 meeting Barbara M contacted Caroline Oneto about conducting a workshop for us.  Caroline is available to join us on November 6 from 10am-12pm (our regular meeting date/time) for a workshop on Curved Shapes.  The cost of this session is $28/person.  We’ll discuss in more detail at our June meeting.

Month 5 of our Piece & Love Block of the Month by modern quilt designer Sherry Shish is now available on our page of her website.  Everyone has received the details on accessing it but if you need it resent let JoAnne know.

Reminder: Do not share the pattern with anyone.  It is meant to be used by members, only.

Today’s Speaker – Amy Friend

Amy Friend, founder of our guild and talented artist/quilter, delighted us with a discussion on her path from drawing flowers growing in her mother’s garden to designing fabulous quilts and fabric lines and, writing 3 successful books.  Her presentation focused on elements of modern quilting and she shared stories and photos of her quilts and, patterns from her latest book, Petal and Stem.

Amy began her blog when she moved to West Newbury and during her children’s nap time taught herself Modern quilting and began designing Paper Piecing patterns.  She will be teaching PP this month in a Road at Home workshop.

Show and Tell:

JoAnne has completed Block 1 of our BOM featuring vibrant blue HST’s.

Mary is hand quilting her Clamshells pillow from the Thread House UK retreat.

Suzanne is continuing to work on her beautiful Butterfly quilt.

Brenda is working on a lovely purple and teal quilt for her son’s girlfriend using hombre and Kaffe strips.

Patty picked up a UFO to complete – a Lambada pattern and, her first paper piecing project!

Wendy is working on a Cobblestones quilt for her uncle.

Lou is working on the first modern quilt she began!
