SEACOAST MODERN QUILT GUILD

MONTHLY MEETING (via Zoom)

FEBRUARY 5, 2022

We welcomed Gail Campbell, one of our newer members.  Gail has been quilting for 45 years! Welcome, Gail!

Once we have a final list of members our roster will be updated.  Carol will be reaching out to members if address and/or telephone #’s are needed.

The membership roster can be distributed to members and must include a disclaimer stating that the list will not be used by members for business purposes.  If anyone does not want their information shared, please contact Carol.

Membership in MQG will be updated based on the number of members. Leaders to be updated on the website, payment to be made by PayPal.

 Programs:

Looking for a Program volunteer coordinator to assist in coordinating program events (i.e. workshops, speakers, etc.).  Please let Patty know if you’d like to volunteer.

Survey Results

We had a great response with a variety of suggestions and areas that members would like to focus on this year. 

~Designers that multiple people mentioned include Alison Glass, Angela Walters, Anna Marie Horner, Kaffe Fassett, Lori Holt, Victoria Findlay Wolfe, Brigitte Heitland, Denyse Schmidt, Tara Faughnan

There’s a wide range of techniques members have expressed interest in.  The list is lengthy but the most popular are listed here.

There is interest across a number of programs. Listed are the ones with the most interest.

Use of Color - Tara Faughnan offers classes in color play/pairing colors when you’re using several different colors (Sasha S)

 

Other Program/Activity ideas:

Modern Quilt Guild is having a free Color Block Challenge.  Details will be coming out after Quilt Con.  Colleen will check with MQG for parameters/guidelines.

Rachelle Dennehy (Australia) is doing a Tula Pink BoM.  $85 flat fee

Amanda Murphy, a fabric designer who designs for Benartex offers a Live BoM (free) every other Thursday (1st & 3rd)

Tula Pink tutorials/videos

 Retreat – members were asked about a retreat this year and if they’d prefer to attend in the spring or fall.  60% of those interested in attending this year preferred the fall.  Most asked for single rooms. 

The cost is $110/night for a single + 9% Maine tax; $80/pp per night for a double + 9% Maine tax

Meals – minimum of 25 for meals

Breakfast $11/pp + 8% Maine meal tax

Dinner $25/pp + 8% Maine meal tax

 Patty will check on the fall dates.

 Social Media – This will be a March agenda item.  Someone is needed to manage our Facebook and Instagram pages.

 Upcoming Maker’s Market

SMQG is participating in the Maker’s Market which is being held on April 8-9 at the Best Western in Hampton, NH.

We’re reserving a table and will be looking for display items such as quilts (mini and large (charity quilt(s)), lottery blocks, BoM, scrapbook, posters, photo collage, etc. that reflect our Modern quilting. 

Carol & Kate will be meeting with Maggie from Pintuck & Purl which is sponsoring the event to get details on the set up and what is allowed/not allowed for display structures.  That information will be shared in our March meeting.

We’ll be looking for volunteers to

1.    Cover 2-3 hour shifts on Friday (12pm-8pm)

2.    Cover 2-3 hour shifts on Saturday (9am-4pm)

Gail C showed us her 3D quilt and Kaffe Fassett stars

Please send Carol all Show & Tell photos so they can be posted to our blog.  Past S&T photos are appreciated as well.  Once we’re back in person pictures will be taken during the meeting.

Future Meeting Dates and Locations:

Regular monthly meetings will be held on the first Saturday of each month at 10am-12pm (adjusted for holiday weekends). Initially, 2022 meetings will be held remotely via Zoom.  Any changes for 2022 dates and/or location will be announced in advance.
