February 2023 General Membership Meeting Recap

 

It may have been a chilly -9 degrees outside, but several intrepid members still attended the February meeting, held at Portsmouth Public Library. 

 

Business

  • Quilting Jet Girl - This designer is participating in the What is Love? free block giveaway, through February 14, along with 14 other modern block designers.  Just sign up for the sites email to get the free patterns.
  • The "Hands Across the Valley" quilt show will be held April 22 - 23 at Hampshire College in Amherst, MA.
  • Durham Public Library is displaying Seacoast MQG quilts through February 18.
  • Volunteers are needed to take down the display at the Durham Public Library on February 18 at 10:30am.  Contact Barbara to volunteer.
  • 2023 membership fees are now due.  Please mail $50.00 payable to Seacoast Modern Quilt Guild to the chapter address: P.O. 808, Ipswich MA 01938.
  • QuiltCon is February 23-26
  • MQG is running an inspiration series for 2023 - color palettes. January's is shown below.
 



Retreat         April 28-30  Franciscan Guest House, Kennebunk, ME

We need 15 attendees to hold the retreat.  Check in opens on Friday, the 28th, at 11:00am.  Fee includes accommodation, sewing station, pot luck dinner on Friday evening, breakfast and lunch each day, drinks and snacks, swag bag, and prizes. This is a great event to relax, sew on your own schedule, meet new people and enjoy friends, and get any quilting advice you may seek.  Kennebunkport is within walking distance and hosts lovely shops, restaurants, and the shore.  A few ladies are planning a side trip to Marden's, which has a huge fabric stock at great prices.  All are welcome to join on the side trip.
 
Cost:  $325 for a single room; $250 per person for a double room.
 
Payment Dates: 50% deposit by February 11, remainder by March 11. The Guild would appreciate anyone who can pay in full by February 11 to do so.  Mail payments to:  Seacoast Modern Quilt Guild, P.O. 808, Ipswich MA 01938.

NOTE: We need a someone to coordinate food for the retreat.  Please contact Joanne if interested in volunteering.
 

Presentation      Slice & Insert

Barbara showed us an interesting and easy technique from Alexandra Ledgerwood's book "Improvising Tradition".  Participants were invited to practice with paper at the meeting and then to use it at home with fabric.  Please bring your completed fabric block to the March meeting for Show & Tell.
