Join us for our June meeting!
Seacoast Modern Quilt Guild will be holding a special hands-on workshop for our June meeting.:
Creating Unique Surface Designs on Fabric
Stamp, Print, Marble and Paint
All are welcome. This workshop is free to SMQG members; guest fee is $10.00.
- Saturday, June 3
- 9:30am - 12:30pm (Please note extended meeting time.)
- Mary E. Bartlett Memorial Library, 22 Dalton Road, Brentwood NH
We will be exploring a number of different printing techniques.
All paints, stencils and block printing materials will be supplied and we will have samples to show how you can add a personalized touch to your sewing projects.
Wear comfortable “painting” clothes. Although the processes we are using are not particularly messy they are indelible.
You will need to bring your own fabric:
- Fabrics can be from your stash.
They do not need to be pre-washed.
They do not need to be white.
- An 8” or 10” square of fabric would be a good size to work with.
Recycle, refresh, reuse:
- that stained linen napkin or shirt with the grease spot might be a good candidate for a bit of paint magic.
- Dryer sheets or used “color catchers” could also serve as unusual background accents on an art quilt or greeting card.
- Amazon offers packages of blank dish towels that are perfect candidates for stamping or block prints.
Optional:
- flat objects like feathers, dried leaves, bits of lace, string or ribbon can be used too. You might find inspiration in the backyard or kitchen “junk” drawer. Bring your “finds” along.
This workshop is meant to be a sampler to give you some examples of techniques you may want to explore more on your own.
